Evening General Auction of Furniture, Antiques, Collectables, Ceramics, Household & More!
A striking antique ironstone plate produced by Ashworth Brothers (G. L. Ashworth & Bros.), makers who acquired the original Mason’s Patent Ironstone factory in 1862. This piece is marked “Real Ironstone China” on the reverse, reflecting the durability and craftsmanship associated with early English ironstone pottery.
The plate features a richly detailed Imari-style floral pattern, with deep red, cobalt blue, and gold accents, characteristic of 19th-century decorative tastes. The floral motifs and vibrant colour palette exemplify Ashworth Brothers’ continuation of Mason’s popular designs. Ironstone china, first patented in 1813 by Charles James Mason, was celebrated for its strength and mass-producibility, making it both practical and collectible.
