A pair of 1975 railway-themed commemorative covers marking significant events in British rail history. The first celebrates the naming of locomotive 4767 “George Stephenson” at Shildon, County Durham on 25 August 1975, part of the Rail 150 Exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. The second cover marks the Horwich Works Open Day held on 30 August 1975.
Both covers feature the 7p stamp depicting Stephenson’s “Locomotion”, postmarked with their respective event dates and locations. The Horwich cover is addressed to Mr F. Swarbrick, Bradshaw, Bolton, Lancashire. A fine pair for collectors of British railway memorabilia or transport-themed philately.
