A vintage Japanese eggshell porcelain tea service, dating to the mid-20th century (circa 1940-1955). The set is comprised of a lidded teapot, a lidded sugar bowl, a cream jug, and several teacups and saucers. Each piece is crafted from delicate, translucent white porcelain and features a hand-decorated or transfer-printed dragon motif in iron-red and gold, accented by stylised flame scrolls. The rims, handles, and finials are embellished with gilding. A distinctive characteristic of this service is the geisha girl lithophane moulded into the base of each teacup, which becomes visible when the vessel is held to the light. This type of porcelain was a popular export item during the post-war period. No maker’s marks are present. Teapot height approximately 18cm; cup diameter approximately 9cm (estimated as no scale was provided).
